Thanks to an increasingly large number of job websites, a person looking for employment no longer has to wait for the Sunday edition of the paper in order to peruse the wanted ads.  Job websites are experiencing remarkable successes when it comes to matching applicants to vacancies. Unlike newspaper ads or print listings, job websites have good real-time updating capacities, so it is possible to apply for a job seconds after the opening has been posted.  And because job websites are internet-based, a prospective employer or applicant can communicate at anytime, from any geographical location, in any time zone.

Despite the many advantages of job websites however, there are still some things that you need to be wary about.  In this post, we discuss some important considerations when searching for employment on job websites.

Job Websites Tips

job websites1.     Know how to distinguish between a legitimate website and a scam one.  Normally, I would say that any job website that asks for a membership fee is probably a scam, except that recently, there has been some paid membership job websites that do pay out contractors for completed projects.  However, keep in mind that for every legitimate paid membership job website, there are hundreds of scam ones.

2.    Before signing up for any website, do your research, Go to online workers’ and freelancers’ forums.  You should find a wealth of information in these forums, as participants are usually very candid and honest about sharing their experience with various job websites.  Additionally, you will be picking up valuable tips and information as well.

3.    Once you find a legitimate job website, devote some time towards honing and perfecting your online resume.  Employees who post job openings online are no less discriminating than those whom you may meet face-to-face.  An online job application profile may look deceptively easy to fill out and submit, but it doesn’t mean that you could just fill it in willy-nilly.  Make sure that your application profile contains all the information needed to convince an employer to give you the job.  Remember that job websites can be accessed by applicants all over the world; competition for plum positions are bound to be stiff.

4.    And finally, be honest about your skills and qualifications.  Never include any misleading or fabricated information in your resume and application profile.  It may be more difficult for an overseas employer to verify all details in your account, but you are risking substantial damage to your online work reputation once you are found out to have lied.
